Please note: King’s College London has five separate campuses in different parts of London. Make sure you go to the correct campus: SMLMS 2017 will be at Guy’s Campus. If you can’t see The Shard building when you look up then you’re in the wrong place!

SMLMS Dinner at Roast Restaurant

The Symposium Dinner on Thursday evening will be at Roast Restaurant in Borough Market.

The menu (carefully selected by the discerning palate of our organisers) will be:

Starter: Wiltshire Burrata with Heritage Tomatoes and Peaches.

Main (non-vegetarian) : Braised Ox Cheeks, Creamed Onion, and Smoked isle of Wight garlic.
Main (vegetarian): Pea and Shallot Tortellini with Romesco and Smoked Almonds.

Dessert: Summer Pudding with Clotted Cream and Berries.

All registered attendees and sponsors will receive a dinner ticket when registering  at the Registration Desk on Wednesday morning. If you are unable to make the dinner, please let us know and we will make sure your ticket does not go to waste!


Discount Rooms are available to book through King’s College Halls.

Quote SMLMS2017 to receive the discount rate of £49 per night, including breakfast.

Getting here: Flying

Gatwick Airport (LGW)

Regular National Rail trains run to London Bridge, taking about 30 minutes.

Regular National Rail trains run to London Bridge, taking about 30 minutes.

London Heathrow (LHR)

Regular Tube services take about an hour: catch a Piccadilly Line service to Green Park. Then change for the Jubilee Line train to London Bridge.

Alternatively, the Heathrow Express (£25 single, £37 return) travels to Paddington Station, where you can change for Circle Line, Hammersmith & City Line, or Bakerloo Line to Baker Street station, then change for the Jubilee Line to London Bridge station. This option will take about 45 minutes.

A taxi will cost around £70-£90 for a 45-60 minute journey to London Bridge.

Getting here by train

International Train

Catch the Eurostar to St Pancras International, then travel on the Northern Line (Bank Branch) to London Bridge Station (about 20 minutes journey).

Local Train Stations

Get an Oyster Card (required for train and bus travel) here.

1–2 minutes away:

  • London Bridge tube station, served by the Northern (Bank Branch) and Jubilee lines
  • London Bridge train station, for mainline rail services.

10–15 minutes away:

  • Borough tube station, on the Northern Line (Bank Branch)

15–20 minutes away:

  • Southwark tube station, on the Jubilee Line

25–35 minutes away:

  • Waterloo (Northern, Bakerloo, Jubilee, Waterloo & City Lines, and mainline rail services).
  • Elephant and Castle (Bakerloo Line)
  • Bermondsey (Jubilee Line)

Taxis and Minicabs

‘Black cabs’ (although they come in many colours!) are the official London taxi service. Only black cabs can be hailed from the street or from taxi ranks.

Private hire vehicles, including minicabs, are also available in London but these have to be booked in advance – your hotel will be able to advise you of a licensed minicab operator whom they trust or you can search for a licensed operator on the Transport for London (TfL) website.

Driving & Parking

London Bridge is a very busy area and there is limited parking available at all times. NCP London Bridge offers pre-booked parking only a few minutes’ walk from New Hunt’s House.

There are also limited pay-and-display (ticketed) street parking at Guy’s Campus, and on Western Street, St Thomas Street and Snowsfields.
